As you know, I’ve been trying to find places to get some trek training in before heading off to China in just 3 weeks! Luckily for me, I am only a 1 hour+ drive away from the beautiful Lake District and one of my all time favourite places, Grasmere!

If you’ve never stepped foot in the Lake District, it is 100% somewhere you need to get to when visiting the UK. This is why I am CONSTANTLY telling non-UK visitors to head outside of London. Go up north and see the TRUE beauty of Britain.

Discovering Grasmere Lake

Grasmere is not too far from the Lake District’s biggest lake, Windermere, which is always the most popular lake to visit. However, there is one very big reason to visit Grasmere and that is the unbelievable gingerbread. You’ll see from the little travel short doc I put together over on my YouTube channel, this tiny shop had huge queues spilling out of the doorway!

I was talking about the Grasmere Gingerbread with some friends and we all agreed, it’s not like anything we’ve ever had. Yes it is gingerbread, but not like gingerbread men, it’s more crunchy, more crumbly, more delicious!

You can only buy this tasty treat at the small shop within the village of Grasmere, so don’t be trying to cheat and buy it online, because you’ll be sadly disappointed. Think of it as your reward for making the effort to travel to this stunning little village.

Perfect Photography in Grasmere

I went to Grasmere not long ago and did a little vlog whilst on my walk, but that day it was bright beautiful sunshine and I thought that was as beautiful as the Lake District could ever look, but I was sooooo wrong.

It turns out, when it rains in the Lakes, it looks even more beautiful!

The light drizzle even made for some of the best shots I have ever managed to get, what with me being a photography novice and all. I ended up getting some of my all time favourite photos, particularly one of a swan just minding its own business on Grasmere lake. (See above)

Yes he hissed at me, yes I was getting attacked by ducks at the same time, but the shot I got was completely worth it!

Things to do in Grasmere

One thing I’ve promised myself, is that before I leave for New Zealand, I want to book a weekend away to really see the best of the Lake District. There’s so much to do if you love to get outdoors and get active.

With hiking being one of the most popular activities, the Lake District also lends itself perfectly to water sports such as paddle boarding or sailing.

I’d love to go back and try a bit of kayaking, paddle boarding and maybe even take a trip out around the lake on a boat!

There’s also an abundance of luxury hotels and spas to choose from, so I definitely think it will be a ‘treat yo’ self’ weekend away, which I have absolutely no issue with.

If you’ve never been to Grasmere or anywhere in the Lake District, then it is definitely worth heading to Visit Cumbria for all the information you’ll need on where to go and what to do!
