I travel a lot, as you know, not just to different countries, but also to and from work. That’s right, I’m a commuter. That’s why I decided to invest in something a bit sturdier than my cheap Vans backpack and the Fjällräven Kånken was the most obvious choice.
A new Fjällräven store opened in Manchester not long ago and since then, us Mancs have been going Fjällräven crazy! You’ll see at least 1 in 10 people walking down the street with a Fjällräven backpack hanging from their shoulders.
I was a little apprehensive at first, due to the hefty price tag, but I am so glad that I invested!
One of the biggest selling points of the Fjällräven Kånken is it’s timeless style. The slightly vintage look makes it the perfect fashion accessory and it also means that as it ages, it’ll just look better and better.
The normal Kånken backpacks come in a rainbow of colours and shades, however the 15″ laptop bag only come in 15 different colours, which is still pretty impressive!
The laptop bag still has the distinctive Fjällräven Kånken white and red badge emblazoned on the front, so you still get that recognisable feature that everyone now recognises.
I was so naive when it came to backpacks before I bought this. I just thought all backpacks felt the same, after all, you just strap it to your back and off you go, right?
I was using a cheap Vans backpack before this, but as soon as I made the switch, I felt the difference! It’s not just how padded and comfy the straps feel on the shoulders, but it seems to distribute the weight more evenly, meaning your back doesn’t start to ache if you’re carrying heavy items.
I now use this whenever I do my trek training, simply because I know I can wear it for hours on end without it crippling me. If it had a little waist strap, it would be the perfect trekking bag, however that’s not what it’s been designed for, so I’ll let it off!
This is where the Fjällräven Kånken comes into its own. The 15″ laptop bag is not just amazing at being a laptop bag, it’s also great at just being a backpack, a regular old backpack. You can get the Kånken in various different litres, but the 15″ laptop bag is 18l, which means you’ve got plenty of room to put all your stuff in!
I use mine every single day to go to and from the office and I have used it to carry snacks and camera equipment when I’ve been out on my treks. The laptop section is great, perfectly padded and keeps everything snug and secure. I now have a 13″ laptop, but my 15″ just about fit inside the laptop section, I would say if you want to also put your chargers and any other adapters and wires in that section, get a size up from your actual laptop size.
The Fjällräven Kånken bags are all waxed and waterproof, which means that you can commute, hike or travel in any weather and you don’t have to worry about your valuables getting soaked. Especially if you live in the very rainy parts of the world (*cough* Manchester *cough*). You can also grab a bit of wax and re-wax the bag when it starts to show a bit of wear, so you’ll always be able to keep your bag waterproof, even with age!
Overall, this is a very versatile backpack that meets every need I have. I think I’ll also be getting the camera inserts so I can use it as a camera bag specifically when I need to.
I’ve used this as a hand luggage backpack for short trips, specifically when I went to Croatia. I managed to pack a good 3 days worth of luggage in my 15″ laptop bag.
The best thing about the Fjällräven Kånken bags is that they open up just like a little suitcase, which means that they are great for quick packing and unpacking. As for safety, I would say to still treat it like any other backpack, keep a small lock on the zips if you know you are walking around busy cities.
Obviously, because you do open the backpack as a suitcase, if you leave the zips to one side, it could be easy for someone to just unzip it and reach in to grab a few things, so please be careful and carry it on your front if you are doing touristy things!
These guys are a premium company, so their prices are a little steep. However, the product is top quality, super versatile and very stylish, so the price really does match the quality you are getting.
The Fjällräven Kånken 15″ laptop backpack is £95, which considering it is waterproof, super comfy and very practical, that seems like a good investment.
If you are needing a slightly cheaper alternative, then you can opt for the classic Fjällräven Kånken, which comes in at around £80 and you can just use the inner pocket as a place to put your laptop, however, it won’t be as secure or roomy as the laptop specific backpacks.
Final thoughts on the Fjällräven Kånken 15″ Laptop Backpack?
I love it, I really do. I’ve fallen in love with the brand overall, not just its message, but its amazing staff, beautiful design and practicality.
I love the fact that you can buy the camera case insert to turn your favourite backpack into a camera bag. I love that it is waterproof without having to buy a rain cover. I love that it puts comfort first and makes sure the weight is perfectly distributed to allow you to wear it for as long as possible. I love that it keeps my laptop as snug as a bug in a rug and it is just a pleasure to wear.
I’ve even decided that I will be purchasing the Fjällräven Kånken Abisko Frilust 45W as my trekking bag for the Great Wall Charity trek, just because I am so impressed with the quality!
If you’re looking for a backpack that does it all, will last you a lifetime and keep you looking stylish, then you NEED to check out all of Fjällräven’s product range!
*This is not a sponsored post and I bought the backpack with my own hard earned cash! I’m just a crazy Fjällräven fangirl!
